You have to include what happened to Youkilis as a result of putting
him back at 3rd.
He was a good soldier about the idea at the time, but look what
happened:
KevinYoukilis 2010 BOS 440 261 276 1.057
AdrianBeltre 2010 BOS 644 433 354 .818
-----------------------------------------------------------
1.875
KevinYoukilis 2011 BOS 520 338 273 .808
AdrianGonzalez 2011 BOS 716 450 403 .896
-----------------------------------------------------------
1.704
AdrianBeltre 2011 TEX 527 365 298 .816
AdrianGonzalez 2010 SDP 692 436 388 .890
so, let's see...Gonzo improves 6 points going from San Diego's
pitching wasteland to friendly Fenway and Beltre drops 2 points moving
to another hitter-friendly park. Boston gains 78 points. Gonzo's
2011 numbers include being hampered by his disgusting habit of GIDPs.
But Youkilis drops an astonishing 239 points!!! He is getting worn
down to nothing at 3rd.
Defensively, Youk was every bit as good as Gonzo was at 1st. HOWEVER
no way is Youk defensively as good as Beltre at 3rd.
BAD BAD BAD BAD. Theo ==> Thoe here.
