in more than one way. - - - Josh Beckett's and Holly Fisher got
married this month, according to the Boston Herald. Unlike many
athletes' wives, though, Fisher isn't a model or an actress. She's a
space-engineering consultant and the two went to high school together
in Texas. Beckett is my choice for "comeback of the year". By the AS
break it will be him and Lester. Daisuke and Buchholtz will be a
little behind with almost equal success. Lackaye and Wakefield will
have about the same number of wins.
Every pitch Bucholtz has is better than comparable Beckett pitch...not
sure how you purport your outcome. It's not impossible but Bucholtz
throws harder has a nastier off speed stuff and better control....
that spells better success most times. That BTW isn't a Beckett
indictment as he may do well, I just think it's clear CB has the much
fuller toolbox than 95% of pitchers at this point.
Even during Beckett's miserable 2010 season he had a better curveball
than Buchholz.
Beckett still has the better control too. Unfortunately for him
getting the ball over the plate more often just meant it got hit
harder more often.
However the Venerable Poster's original premise has Beckett returning
to 2007-2009 form. If that's the case then then is little to choose
between the two pitcher's fastballs either.
Buchholz did have great 2010. Another 3 starts and he was probably
the Cy Young winner....but it is just one year. Beckett has had
several years similar to Clay's 2010
Each of the Red Sox 5 starters has the ability to win 17
games.....since they all have at one time during the last 4 seasons.
It is also very unlikely that they will all do so. It is more than
probable that the two starters who were the best on the 2010 team
won't be the same two starters on the 2011 team-
Actually the same pair of starters leading the team in wins for
consecutive years has only happened once in the last 21 years.
Considering that most of these teams had either Clemens or Martinez on
them it is a pretty rare feat

Also Clemens and Hurst did lead the team in wins in 1987 and 1988
