Re: OT - Bob Dylan

another band that continues to put on fantastic shows on a nightly
basis. some bands don't sound as good live as they do in the studio. u2
sounds different live vs. in the studio, but just as good either way.

Ya never know what you're going to get from Bono! What he does on
stage... mixing different songs into the old stand-bys... is fantastic!

yeah, that intrigued me about him. i remember him tossing in lyrics from
"drowning man" into the red rocks performance of "11 o'clock tick
tock" - made no sense in context, but somehow it just *worked*. that's
the thing about these guys as a whole - they can completely rearrange a
song (as you illustrate with the link below) and it still sounds good. i
love the moody blues, but some of their song rearrangements for live
performances just don't click with me ("i'm just a singer" for instance,
which is one of my favorites of them in the studio, but sounds just
awful live. stop playing those arpeggios during the verses, justin -
wanna hear john's bass!). u2 somehow always gets it right no matter how
they do it.

This is one of those bands that everyone... regardless of musical taste...
should see live at least once. My problem with them this year is that
damn claw... and the fact that they couldn't fit it inside Fenway... which
is leading to the freakin' NKOTB and Backstreet Boys playing the park this
year. Blah.

ugh. i'd rather stick a hot soldering iron in my ears.

Dylan and Morrison together was a crap shoot... and we got lucky!
Bono rocks... but it's the Edge that rocks my world! <g>

the edge has fantastic riffing skills. not a great soloist, but puts out
a great hook and can play a very expressive, emotional acoustic as well
(think "all i want is you", "red hill mining town", etc.).

Just one of my favorite performances of this song by these guys.

agreed. amazing job by all. and, once again - they rearrange it, and it
still works. fantastically.
