I think you are missing what everyone else was inferring. Dan Uggla is property of the Marlins and not a free agent. You just can't "sign him". You could try a trade, but he is only in his 4th year and will probably still be relatively cheap for the Marlins. So a trade would take a lot on Boston's side.
