Game 115, RS had it all the way

Game 115, McDuck Reporting

A Wild, Wild, Wildcard win, as the RS did not go easy into what
appeared to be a dark night. Clay Buchholz, perhaps unfairly, was
scheduled for the GOAT, but he escapes unscathed as the RS rally in
the 9th with a 7-hit outburst to win and erase his apparent
base-running error.
----------------------------------------------------------
Opponent: Texas Rangers
Game data:
WIN 8 - 4
Lester no decision
Saito gets the win 3-3
HR Ortiz (16), Drew (13)
Season's record: 66 - 49
Current series record: 1 - 0
Current trip/stand record: 1 - 0
----------------------------------------------
This game's STARS and GOATS and +/-'s:
Lester gets a plus for a strong Quality Start, giving up 3 runs in 6
innings. Bard gets a pass for giving up a "manufactured" run. Saito
and Papelbon each get a plus for getting the job done, despite each
giving up a hit.
Victor Martinez gets the STAR for his 2-run, 2-out double in the 9th,
driving in the tying and winning runs. Papi also had a great game,
with a tying 2-run HR early and a double to contribute to the 9th
inning comeback. Close to a star. Drew gets a plus for a good day,
including the "icing on the cake" 2-run HR in the 9th. Pedroia also
gets a plus for a good day, including a single in the 9th that should
have driven in the tying run.
I've wanted Francona to use Buchholz (who has Ellsbury speed) as a PR
for a long time. Finally, he took my advice, so I give him a plus. Not
his fault, I assume, that Buchholz messed it up by not scoring on the
single off the wall by Pedroia (who took 2d on the play at the plate).
Unclear why Buchholz started back to 2d. Perhaps he misunderstood a
signal from DeMarlo Hale, or perhaps he thoght the ball was caught (it
was fielded off the wall v. quickly). Despite the mess up, Buchholz
almost scored on a head-first slide ? only a perfect relay by Michael
Young got the out at home.
Youkilis gets a pass for his suspension, since he was not needed. He
was slated for a minus at the start of the 9th <g>.
----------------------------------------------
This game's starting pitching grade and comments: (Based on 1 to 3)
3------Good performance by Lester, after a shaky start. He would own
the Rangers if he ever found a way to get Michael Young out.
----------------------------------------------
This games relief pitching grade and comments: (Based on 1 to 3)
2------Not so good performance by Bard and decent, but not
overwhelming, performances by Saito and Papelbon.
----------------------------------------------
This game's hitting grade and comments: (Based on 1 to 3)
3------Great hitting day, almost all of it coming in the 9th. I think
they had 7 hits and a BB in the 9th against a top reliever, and THAT
is so uncommon a feat that the early troubles can be overlooked.
----------------------------------------------
This game's defense grade and comments: (Based on 1 to 3)
2------Reddick failed to make a tough play in the 6th on a double by
Byrd. Green and Pedroia made a slick DP in the 3rd. Not a lot of
chances for the defense, given all the K's by Lester.
