He's 0 for 8 in the series and that is the most surprising aspect of
the games for me so far. I wouldn't want to be Penny tomorrow.

Look up "overrated" in the dictionary and you'll find Jeter's picture.
The
NY media is so in love with him every thing he does it pushed to the
sky.

Oh Stan I understand what you are saying, however I think also Jeter
is under rated by alot of people, he is a pollarizing player to say
the least! I think some people resent him for the attention he gets,
they say the intangibles are not what some say they are, they say he
is over rated. The truth really is that he is a no brain hofer, he is
one of the best offensive shortstops ever, he was like it or not a key
part of 4 championships, he also has been a great base runner. His
defense has been poor but I would say for the bulk of the career it
has been out weighed by his offense and base running. Also he HAS had
alot of great moments in big games, no he is not an automatic hit in
the clutch, no one is, still he has had huge hits, some big homeruns,
yes the rediculous flip play, he is clearly one of the best shortstops
ever, I don't see how any one can argue that, whether he is as good as
his fans say is another story of course!

On one hand we say his defense is not great - but on the other, the
two most memorable plays in years were made by him.  The dive into the
3rd base stands - and when he chased the wild throw toward home up the
first base line and flipped it back to the plate.

****

The "dive into the 3rd base stands" is a great example of what I was talking
about. IIRC, Pokey Reece made virtually the exact same play earlier in the
game except it was probably a better play since Reese caught the ball closer
to the stands -- at most 2 steps -- and still managed to get control of
himself; whereas Jeter caught the ball a good five steps away from the
stands and still went wildly into the stands well after he caught the ball.
It made for good television, and the NY media came all over themselves, but
that may the most overrated baseball play ever.

As I said before, it was due to Jeter getting a poor jump. Lugo in his
prime would have made the catch w/o having to go into the stands.- Hide quoted text -

Ahh yes..... I remember Lugo's prime......it was a Thursday in July of
2005 if I recall.
