I realize RickyBobby's just a sports newsgroup gypsy who's
loyalty changes with any gust of wind. Now it is Dodgers
fans who will likely get to see Manny's dark side, not
running out ground balls, letting fly balls drop. The kind
term was "Manny being Manny" but sheer laziness and lack of
commitment is more accurate.
You must be watching a different Manny then the rest of us
watch. Manny's work ethic is so much more intense then most
pro baseball players. He has showed no laziness nor lack of
commitment since coming to Los Angeles last summer. He arrives
at the stadium long before his teammates, works out longer and
takes a longer batting practice too. Manny has also stayed in
shape over the winter break.
Manny was pure poison in the clubhouse, a bad teammate.
After what he has to give his agent and to charity $45M/2
yrs. is about the same money he would have made playing for
the Red Sox, but then his reputation wouldn't be
irreparably damaged. No other team made Manny an offer
because they saw how he is ethically bankrupt, that and
most franchises don't generate enough money.
Wrong dude!
Manny was loved in the Dodger clubhouse and by all the players
as well as the coaching staff. And be advised that EVERY pro
player, no matter what the sport, tries to get the largest
contract he or she can. Manny is no different then any other
pro athlete. He just has an agent who is the toughest in the
business to deal with.
Sure it's fun to watch Manny hit home runs but in light of
all of his character deficits Red Sox fans know in the end
he's not worth it. Enjoy your deal with the devil.
The problem was with Red Sox fans and not Manny. They are a
very peculiar breed. Dodger fans had no problem with Manny's
character, work ethic, or abilities. We will certainly enjoy
our deal with him. It will be a very enjoyable few years.
If you're so unhappy with the way things worked out, maybe you
should stop tuning in to the Dodger games and follow some
other team. It might make you a happier person.
