Those are your third and fourth hitters. In a perfect world, I'd bat Bay
third and Papi cleanup. I know Ortiz likes batting third, but his most
heroic hitting (the 2004 season) he was batting fourth, not third. If you
want Ortiz third, then you put Bay in the fourth spot. Assuming they want
to make Ortiz happy, the order should be:

Ellsbury
Pedroia
Ortiz
Bay
Youk
Drew
Lowell
Lugo (I think he's going to win the SS job)
Varitek

Is this your preferred line-up (other than Ortiz) or your guess at the
actual starting lineup against RHBs? If a "prediction", I'd disagree.
Bay will bat 7th if Lowell is well. It will be:

Ellsbury
Pedroia
Ortiz
Lowell
Drew
Youk
Bay
Varitek
Lugo (I think he's going to win the SS job -- I agree)

I predict this for the following reasons:

1. Terry loves to have a L/RLR etc. order, especially for the top 5.
That puts Papi 3rd and Drew 5th and Tek 8th.

2. He likes the 2d leadoff guy at 9th (Lugo).

3. He likes Lowell a lot, if Lowell is hitting, of course.

4. Bay is a v. good power hitter and only a decent OB guy. Terry
prefers the better OB guy (Youk) higher in the order.

Your order, I assume, was against RHP. Here is my guess against LHP:

Pedroia
Youk
Ortiz
Lowell
Bay
Drew
Varitek
Lugo (I think he's going to win the SS job -- I agree)
Ellsbury

Now, if Tek stinks up the joint, he goes to the end. But he does have
pretty good numbers against LHP.

I don't think batting order matters all that much, so I do not have a
strong personal preference, other than I want to get guys who are not
hitting moved from the top of the order. Terry is too slow to do that
IMHO.
