about Manny's greatness mostly in the past tense --- with a
generalunderstanding that he was in decline. No "decline" in LA.

I seem to recall that Manny required the team options in his contract to be nullified in order to approve the trade to the Dodgers.... so it seems quite calculated he was trying to become an unrestricted FA this season so it was all about money. What rational reason would the Sox have to alienate Manny - they held all the cards and could have chosen to not exercise the team option - and Manny is right where he is now - a Free Agent. It is not always about performance numbers
