Could also be taken as a slam at Manny IMO.  I can't see any rational
person that knows anything about the sport who would maintain that Jason
Bay=Manny Ramirez.  Even Jason.  Not a slam.  A fact.

Also, it's really not a slam on Bay, it's more of a "slam" (not really the
right word) on Youk.  Because in reality, Youk was asked to take over
Manny's role on the team as clean-up hitter, and Bay took over Youk/Lowell's
place in the fifth/sixth spot.  Bay actually did as well or better in the
fifth/sixth spot than we got from that position last season, but we got far
less from the cleanup hitter once Manny left.


A slam on Youk for not protecting Papi??
It doesn't seem that Papi was intentionally walked very often after
Manny left. While I'm not going to go back to all of the game logs, a
rough stat by Hardball Times shows that Papi was intentionally walked
the same number of times in 2008 as 2007--12 times.
