I don't recall even reading the word 'abortion' in that article.
Found it. I'm all for lifting the gag rule. Give women all the
information available to them. Reagan and Bush decided that women in
countries where abortion is legal shouldn't be told about that
option. Who the hell are they to make that decision? You don't want
your tax dollars going to planned parenthood? Write a letter to your
congressman.
Eh....Please tell me why my tax dollars should go towards educating
people about and, in some cases, paying for, abortions for women who
aren't American citizens. Why is that any of our business? (of
course, why should my tax dollars go towards paying for the same
things when they *are* American citizens?)
But that misses the point anyway. And that point was simply this:
whether you like or dislike his executive orders, *this* kind of thing
is, without question, a partisan issue.
What ISN'T "partisan" in your opinion John?
That's a great question, Dano!! I would define "partisan" as those
things which basically fall along party lines (of course there will
always be the occasional Democrat that votes with Republicans and vice-
versa). So federal funds going for abortions for women who aren't
American citizens....I don't know too many Republicans who buy that.
And vice-versa. So that's clearly a "partisan" issue.
An issue that isn't "partisan" according to this concept is the idea
of encouraging people to vote. The "get out the vote" drives are done
by both parties. The idea that our schools should be improved and
that education is critically important for our country's
future...that's a non-partisan issue. Of course, people disagree as
to how best make schools better, so I guess at a micro-level things
could get partisan. But you'd be hard-pressed to find people
disagreeing on whether we should put in a serious effort to educate
our population.
So just a couple of examples off the top of my head.
John
