It was a Democrat thing. Here's an article from September, 1999 (well
before Bush came into office) from the *New York Times* (maybe the
most liberal paper in the United
States):http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9C0DE7DB153EF933A0575A...
It was a bi-partisan effort, John.
Great, I agree. Then why didn't Obama point out the mistakes the
democrats made? Why did he focus all his attention on the "failed
policies of the last 8 years" instead of saying, look, the Clinton
administration really got this ball rolling, and we did nothing about
it? Why didn't he seek to spread the blame around? Because he was
trying to get elected, and the way the game is played (from the
beginning of political history) is that you blame the other guys for
the things that have gone wrong, and you try to take credit for the
things that have gone right.

You weren't paying attention, John. There were many times Obama
blamed the policies of the last "20 years" for the mess we are in today.
That would include the Clinton years. He said it so many times during the
primaries that it became part of Hillary's stump speech to refute the "20
years" claim and remind people how much better off we were during the '90's.
Obama had no obligation to point out mistakes the Dems made..... that
was McCain's job. You don't bite the hand that feeds you.
The Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac mess is so complicated that people simply
choose to blame Clinton.... when in reality there is plenty of blame to go
around..... on both sides of the aisle for the entire economic crisis.
Saying that "Clinton got the ball rolling" is hogwash.... and you know it.

There's so much that people forget about the Clinton years.... the
first balanced budget since 1969, a record for the country's longest
peacetime expansion, the largest budget surplus in the country's history,
historically high levels of home ownership and the lowest unemployment rates
in 30 years. Those were the good old days..... and 20 years from now I
hope to look back at the Obama presidencey with the same feelings.
