Now that Manny has been traded for Jason Bay, I'd like to offer my
thanks to Manny for his time with the Red Sox. Manny, despite your
quirkiness and your occasional lapses of judgment and hustle, I will
forever remember you as the guy who:

- put up Hall of Fame numbers as a Red Sox
- was a *major* contributor to not one, but two, Red Sox World Series'
Championships...something I was worried I would never see in my
lifetime
- a World Series MVP
- the homer against K-Rod in last year's playoffs, when you had every
right to preen after that HR
- hit his first HR in his first Fenway at bat as a member of the Sox
- hit an amazing .350 with 11 rbi in 13 games in the 2004 playoffs
- hit .409 with 2 hr and 10 rbi in the 2007 ALCS
- was an absolute Yankee killer, putting up the following career
numbers against the Bombers: .321/.411/.618/1.029, with 55 hr, 163
rbi in just 725 at bats
- gave Sox fans an unbelievable buzz and energy every time he stepped
into the box, especially early in his career with the team...what a
lift

All in all, I agree that it was time for the Sox to move on from
Ramirez, and I think Jason Bay is a quality replacement (more on this
in a separate thread). But thank you, Manny, for what you gave us
during your time here. Hats off to you, sir.

I'd like to thank him as well. Not so much for his mouth and constantly
changing his opinion about whether he wanted to be here or not, but for
the excitement, the offense, the clutch hits, the WS rings and the
entertainment value. He's a bit of a fruit loop, but he's going to LA.
He'll fit right in!
