I'll see how good everyone say he really is when i see it for myself. I
heard the same bs about Coco Crisp when the Red Sox first got Crisp. How
everyone said how Coco was a great player, and everyone was predicting
that Coco will put up better numbers then what Johnny Damon did in
Boston. And look how that turned out. Then everyone also bragged about
how Drew was a great player that the Red Sox signed, but he hasn't been
worth the money. And a disappointment in my eyes.
From the standpoint of the organization, they don't the hindsight that youare going to use. They have to make a move, or not, based on what they see
right now. They see Bay, who has an OBP about .025 less than Manny's. They
see his SLG is .010 less. They see that he has 1 more double, 1 more
triple, 2 more homers, and 6 more stolen bases. They know that he is a much
better fielder than Manny. They know he hasn't ever been involved in any
"Jason being Jason" moments. They know that next season he will cost half
as much as Manny.
I can't say that I blame them for making this move. It looks like you are
getting about the same level of production (offense and defense) without all
of the headaches. Now, Bay may very well suck like Gagne last season.
However, as I said earlier, the front office doesn't have the ability to
wait and see like the fans do...
