Should the All-Star game determine home field advantage ?

There has been an overwhelming amount of negative opinion in the media
lately about the All-Star game deciding home field advantage in the
World Series. These stories have been usually presented as though
there is near universal disapproval of this experiment. For the past
week or so it's been mighty difficult to find proponents of the idea
in the media.
But they must be out there. It's a good idea that has been working
well.
I watched a sports show tonight where everyone on the panel kept
screaming that it's a horrible idea and that the team with the best
record should have home field advantage period. That's hogwash. What
if one league clearly has more talent and competition, and the other
league only has one team of a superior level of talent... so that team
manages to achieve a better record than any of the teams in the
stronger league...nevermind the fact that it achieved that record
against clearly inferior competition...so that team should get home
field advantage ? Sheesh.

Maybe it's kind of hard to be objective about this given the recent
successes of the AL in general and the Red Sox in particular, but it
seems to me that this experiment is working out exactly as it was
supposed to.
The All Star game has been much more intense than it had been in the
recent past. The teams most likely to make it to the World Series are
usually the best represented in the game (like the Red Sox and Cubs
this year), so the teams with the most at stake can determine their
own destiny.

As I was typing this, Bud Selig was a guest on Letterman and this
issue came up, and Selig quite passionately defended the concept. So
I guess it's not going anywhere. That's fine with me.

Does anyone in this group hate the idea as much as the media wants us
to ?
