They admitted he's obviously having a bad year

Not at all surprised, but highly disappointed in his cronyism.
It suggests to me that Francona doesn't trust his own knowledge
of AL pitchers.

Geez, I thought for a second they had made a catching acquisition.
Putting Varitek on the All Star team is an unexcusable insult to
the catchers who are actually having decent years. Nice guy, yes,
competent guy, no. That describes Francona.

Varitek was elected by the players. He wasn't Francona's choice.

Not according to the Globe:

Brought to you by manager Terry Francona and the American League
player votes, here are the pitchers and reserves for the American
League for the All-Star game. Because the AL has a DH voted on by the
fans, Francona had one less spot to fill than Hurdle did.

Jonathan Papelbon, J.D. Drew, and Jason Varitek

Also, it was my understanding that Francona does have the final
say on the pitchers & reserves. As I said before, Channel 7 said Tek
finished second- and also that Francona "took that into consideration"
when he named Varitek.

Your understanding is incorrect.  Go to MLB.com...I ain't posting the link
again.  The reporters on Channel 7 would be lucky to find their asses with
both hands.  I'll believe MLB...you know...the folks that run the damn game?

Classic. "Can't find their asses with both hands." The IRONY. You
won't need a third hand to read this:

"In addition to the starters who were elected by the fans, pitchers
and reserve players were named to the All-Star Game rosters by the
Player Ballot - a vote of the players, managers and coaches - and by
the All-Star Game managers in conjunction with Major League Baseball."

I'm not posting the link again....<lmao, the irony kills me>

So out of all that, it's Tito's doing?
