For most - it's a choice - and that's a fact.

What about those for whom it's not a choice?  It's pretty much a given
no one supports moochers & glommers, and no one is in favor of systems
that encourage abuse.

But in a civilized society, we take care of those in need.  Hopefully,
it's those who are in *true* need.  A good system will identify those,
keeping abuse to a minimum.  But there will always be abuse...the
trick is to keep it under control.

Agreed but it is out of control.


In both directions. Somehow, the slackers and illegals wind up with the
handouts while the people who need can't get it.

Case in point about how broken it is: My mother, who was 75, retired and
disabled, needed a whole series of eye drops for two weeks after
cataracts surgery. The first day, the cap was loose on one of the
bottles and the entire bottle emtied out. Medicaid would NOT replace it
because she had to wait 30 days for a refill. After two hours of arguing
with apathetic Medicaid employees, I had to get a NEW prescription, paid
out of pocket from a doctor in another city who was not in the Medicaid
system. $192.
