It is certainly "old school" strategy to bunt when facing elite
pitchers. The theory being you might not get another chance. I just
don't think Cabrera is of that ilk.

I wasn't questioning if it was a viable strategy (arguments can be
made either way), I was questioning the timing. Some teams, notably
the A's, don't like to give up outs. I think both arguments have
merit, and what separates a good manager from a bad one is recognizing
when. Hindsight would suggest that the game remained close, but we
can only wonder what the score would be if they hadn't thrown away an
out with a runner on third.
