Kinda woundup tonight for several reasons so insead of waiting for
morning to do it I decided to 'get 'er done' done tonight. Plus I have
a pre-op appointment at Dartmouth tomorrow and I'm thinking my Stimulus
check may arrive, so if the mail man is here before I leave it could be
a big day. And if I DO come up with some cash (As is often the case
this late in the month, the checking account is pretty low.), and the
hospital has no objections, I'm going to get my head shaved later this
week. I'm assuming that will happen when I have the surgery and I'd
kind of like to get a look at myself "Kojaked" in advance.
To the game:
Ugly describes this one, and it had nothing to do with that worrisome
bottom of the 9th. Ichiro is so homely that the 'face plant' he took
robbing 'Tek of extra bases could only have improved his looks. And as
much as it's fun to watch Colon pitch I can't help but think 'fat pig'
or Jaba the Hut (The Star Wars character, not the Yankee pitcher.) when
I look at him.
How interesting was that top of the 8th? It starts with Terry doing
the one thing he does consistantly that I don't like. With Coco on the
bench to pinch run, why try sacrificing Casey to second instead of just
having Coco run for him and straight steal the base? The sacrifice not
only gives away an out but it runs the risk of just what happened to
Casey happening. You lose the out and the man is still only on first.
The way the inning developed it worked out. To me with all this speed
I'd like to see him use it to it's fullest. I've got to think that a
straight out steal, where there's only a throw and tag involved has
better odds of working than a sacrifice, where there's the chances of
missing the bunt, fouling it off, and popping it up that could go wrong.
Again, it's relatively minor but it's the regularity Terry does it that
bothers me.
Regardless, that 8th. was a nice inning with so much happening with 2
outs. The kind of inning that so often seems to go against them in
these west coast games.
And while Paps ended up working too hard I still like Terry not being a
slave to the save situation in his use. Plus he needed the work since
he never even sniffed the pen gate in Oakland.

Game data:
WIN 5 - 3
Colon 2 - 0

Trip/stand record: 1 - 0

This game's +s and -s and STAR and comments:
Starting pitching:
FFB # 2 is the STAR tonight for the 7 innings giving up just a run. I
know Seattle is a weak hitting team, as was the first team he beat I
think, but this Colon kid may just have a future in this game.
Relief pitching:
While I liked Paps out there in the non-save situation and there was
some freaky stuff happening a " - " has to be given for 2 runs in one
inning.
Offense:
Another spread out offensive game with only Drew getting 2 hits (But no
RBI or runs scored.) so though it was't a last inning hit Pedroia gets
a " + " for the 8th. inning double that drove in the eventual game
winning run.

team? How do YOU
spell DYNASTY???
DON!!!
Regardless of what one's thinks of Colon's physical appearance, last
night he was the stopper, and I'm glad that you gave him a Star.
Let's hope tht he keeps this up!
