Game 50---May 22nd.---Don's grade/thoughts !!!

Kind of a tweener game for Dice-K today. The 5.2 innings was 'tween the
5 inning too short games he sometimes throws and the nice 7 inning jobs
he can also turn in. And the 6 walks is 'tween the aggravating 8 walks
he puts up on occasion and the 2 or so he can do. Nothing 'tweener
about the 8 - 0 record with a 2.40 ERA though.
Nothing 'tweener-ish from the offense. Not sure what would be more fun
to be there to see. The 4 homer game earlier on this stand or this 2
Grand Slam display. They needed them too, because......
Nothing 'tweener from the pen either, beyond that 'tween Lopez and Paps
they sucked. To be fair though, Hansen has been off an on better of
late instead of just bad all the time, and Aardsma hasn't had a bad game
for a while.
After a perfect 7 - 0 home stand lie this it's hard not to get cocky
about how good this team is. Until one recalls the last 4 - 6 road trip.
And that this coming 10 game trip goes through Oakland and Seattle.
Places that can be most unkind to our Sox. To come home 6 - 4 would be
a major victory I think.

Starting pitching:
A real tough choice between a plus (Usually needs 6 innings and no more
than 3 runs.) and a pass, but I guess I'll go with a " + " for the 3
runs in the 5.2 innings if only because of his overall season thus far.
Relief pitching:
No tough choice here. Hansen's 2 runs in his inning and Aardsma's 3 in
the same are both " - " worthy.
Offense:
More tough decisions here but only in who is the STAR and who gets
"just" a " + ", Drew's 2 hits, 4 RBI, and 2 runs scored and Lowell's 3
hits, 4 RBI and 3 runs scored are similar. And Drew's grannie got it
going but with the pen melt down Lowell's was needed too. Guess I'll
go with getting things started being slightly more important and make
Drew the STAR and give the " + " to Lowell.
