Just to clarify, Boston will still have to make moves before Game 3
next week: This 25-man roster consists of the players eligible to
appear in this morning's opener. Wakefield and Timlin are not on
today's 25-man roster, but are with the team, so Boston will have to
make at least two more cuts after tomorrow's game. They also have
Beckett on the DL, but eligible to return on April 4th, and Bobby
Kielty, who can become a free agent if he's not added to the 25-man
roster before Game 3.
They'll definitely add Wakefield and Timlin, and sad to say, Moss will
probably be optioned to Pawtucket, his opening day heroics
notwithstanding. They'll probably option Buchholz also, leaving him
in AAA until his first big league start. Eventually, once Beckett and
Buchholz are up, two pitchers of the Snyder/Aardsma/Corey group will
be waived or traded.
Then there's the outfield question. Assuming Moss is in Pawtucket,
they'll have to decide whether to keep or trade Coco. If Coco goes,
Kielty would likely get his job (though Moss is making a case). If
Coco stays, then they'll either have to get Kielty to patiently wait
in Pawtucket, or lose him to another team.

Moss had a bad hitting second game, and got pinch hit for
in the 8th. But he's still the best option for the 5th OFielder from what he
has shown. He and Manny are the only guys who have hit in Japan.
If you aren't going to trade your young players, you have to play them and
give them a chance.
Sure, but Boston isn't going to carry 5 outfielders. If it were up to
me, they would, but teams love that 12-man pitching staff.
I know it's frustrating that Moss is stuck in Pawtucket when he's
really ready to sink or swim in the majors, but overall Boston has
been good about trading (Hanley, Shoppach, Sanchez) or playing
(Papelbon, Buchholz, Lester, Pedroia, Ellsbury) their young players.
There just isn't room for all of them.
