I should add to my post that I was born and raised in Vermont, and have
been a lifelong Sox fan.
With no MLB to be seen for 300 miles in all directions I grew up
rooting for basically the Oakland A's or The Big Red Machine. After
1986 I figured the Sox needed my support. They haven't lost a World
Series game since.
