And some might say that one who claims to be trained to probe butts
should stick to that rather than attempt to diagnose conditions like
mental stability or alcoholism. And most recognize the hypocrisy of
one who constantly diagnoses outside his specialty calling others
hypocrites.
Alcoholism isn't a disease.
That is not true. Alcohol dependence certainly is a disease and has an
ICD-9 code 303. I know the code by heart since I so often diagnose it
in the process of taking a comprehensive history of each of my
patients.
And contrary to what SimpleDonFromBarre says, I am well within the
scope of my license to diagnose this malady.
I know the ICDA well as I started using it back in the 70s.
And anything you do by choice is NOT an addiction in my book. It was
added so insurance could cover it. It's easy to stop drinking...just
STOP. If you buy it again you don't deserve a break. No one forces it
down you're throat.
It's a choice to not take responsibility
for ones actions. If you want to stop you will.
While that may be true, it is still classified as a disease. And once
you are an alcoholic, you always are an alcoholic even if you never
drink again. You are just considered to be in remission.
And that's bull*** too started by AA and perpetuated by doctors who
wish to continue to treat people who can't stop BUYING alcohol. This
is not about use..it's about BUYING alcohol. Period
Diabetes is also a disease even though in many cases it is a result of
a person's choice to gorge themselves on unhealthy food.
