Well, that's the trump card. The question is whether he has to use it.
If Epstein is smart, he will deal Ellsbury and Lester for Santana soon. The
Twins are betting he will. He is betting the Twins will cave and take Coco
instead of Ellsbury.
I say what's the difference to Boston?

I think the Red Sox have a lot more to gain with Santana
than with Ellsbury and Lester. These guys' value may never be
higher--especially Lester, who does not look like a dominating pitcher to
me.

Put it this way: With Santana, the Red Sox look unbeatable. With Lester and
Ellsbury, they do not look unbeatable. It should be that simple for Epstein.
No sense in being stubborn about it.
