The Tampa Bay Rays. That's my pick. I've read a couple of articles
that suggest they are a lot better than people realise, have a lot of
young talent coming through, especially pitching. I know Seattle seems
to be coming back and even Kansas City has shown signs of life, but my
dark horse for doing better than expected is Tampa Bay.
I'll believe it when I see it. They've had great young players for
years. It would be easier for Tampa to make some noise if they didn't
have 38 games against Boston and the Yanks. The dreary ballpark and
total lack of fan support isn't exactly a big help either. Tampa is a
baseball wasteland until proven otherwise.

I think that being in the same division as the Sox and Yanks and having to
play those 38 games against them is a killer. Of course, the home games
against those teams are probably the best draws on their schedule as well,
which I suppose is a nice little silver lining.
I'm not terribly convinced that the state of Florida is a particularly good
baseball area. While it may be nice for spring training, it just doesn't
seem to be particularly good for regular season baseball.
I wouldn't be opposed to seeing the two FLA franchises moved to more
baseball friendly places... not that there are all that many of those left.
