Latest Santana News from Olney...

From ESPN.com --
Olney thinks that the Twins may have gotten their best offers from both the
Yanks and Sox, and now suspects that the patience of the Sox and Yanks may
be wearing thin, and that either or both might pull their offers off the
table unless some agreement is reached. Here's where he says things stand,
and, as always, consider the source:
The Yankees were offering Kennedy and Melky and a prospect. They have since
replaced Kennedy with Hughes. They have told the Twins that the prospect
cannot be Kennedy (now that he's out of the mix), Cano, or Chamberlain, and
must be a second-tier prospect.
The Sox had Coco, Lester, and Lowrie as the main components of the deal.
Word from Olney is if either Ellsbury or Buchholtz were included, the deal
would be done. Theo is *very reluctant* to include either of them.
However, the Twins and Sox had discussions today and apparently Theo
"generated a few new ideas." I suspect that could include the Twins adding
another player to intice the Sox to replace Lester with Buchholtz.
The Twins are still talking to the Dodgers and Mariners, and I still say
they would prefer to see Santana in Dodger Blue, and LA has a bunch of good
young players. Although it's not mentioned, the benefit of getting Santana
safely in the other league may lead them to accept a lesser package. That's
certainly be done before (see Beane, Billy).
Word is that the loser of the Santana sweepstakes may take the package to
Oakland and see if it will get Dan Haren away from the A's.
