Ok, over the last four years we've had all sorts of wrangling going on
over whether Francona is a good manager. Many here think he's an
idiot (the "Coma" label comes to mind) and that they could manage this
team better. I am of the camp that wonders (sometimes aloud) why he
does some of the things he does, but in general I think he's a very
good manager. I'll offer the following evidence over his four-year
tenure:
1. Regular season record with Boston: 375-273 (.579). Average
season: 94-68.
2. Post season record: 22-9 (.710).
3. Three out of four years in the playoffs.
4. One AL East title.
5. Two American League pennants.
6. Two World Series titles.
It's clear to me that he manages the regular season always with an eye
towards the postseason. He tries to get guys rest throughout the
year, and he doesn't play every regular season game like it's game 7
of the World Series. But man, when he gets to the postseason, he's a
cold-blooded assassin.
Bottom line: chalk me up as someone who thinks that Francona is an
outstanding manager, maybe the best Boston's ever seen.

It's pretty hard to argue with two World Series titles.
He's obviously doing a lot of things very right.
The clubhouse chemistry is the best I can ever recall.
Only minor complaints with this postseason, like why not more base
stealing against a catcher who can't throw...but again, it's really
hard to argue with such positive results. Tito's a pro, and we're
very lucky to have him at the helm.
