On Oct 18, 9:38 pm, "Christopher Sprague":
As I said in another post, more simply though, if an object has a downward
trajectory and hits a flat, vertical surface, in will invariably, in 100% of
cases, continue it's downward trajectory. If it suddenly bounces UP, you
have definitive proof that it hit someting other than the flat, vertical
surface.
Period.
Therefore, it's an easy call for people of average human intelligence. Home
run.
Incorrect. There are three places that particular ball could have
landed:
1. On the vertical face of the wall, in which case the ball would have
deflected DOWNWARD onto the field. (No home run, but that didn't
happen.)
2. On the horizontal panel behind the wall, in which case the ball
would have deflected FORWARD BEYOND THE WALL (home run, but that
didn't happen either).
3. On the top of the wall, in which case the ball could have deflected
(a) FORWARD BEYOND THE WALL or (b) BACK INTO THE FIELD depending on
exactly where it hit. In this case, we had 3(b), meaning the ball hit
the top of the wall (the front corner, actually) and bounced back into
the field.
Ergo, it was NOT a home run.
The yellow line, by the way, is just a visual aid that helps
distinguish the green wall from the green background. in ANY ballpark,
a ball "hitting the yellow line" doesn't, of itself, mean anything.
