@w3g2000hsg.googlegroups.com:

I know this is a day late, but it's yet another milestone in this
great season for the BoSox.

Friday, when Big Papi got that first-inning double that allowed Lowell
to drive him in for the first run, he set a record.

That was his 51st double of the season, a new single-season record for
two-baggers by a D.H.

The previous record was 50 set by Seattle's Edgar Martinez in 1995.

Ironically, I think it's because his home run production was down the
first
half of the season when he just wasn't getting a full stride to the
ball.
He
was hitting walls instead of going over them.

I think that there's a LOT of truth to that, OV. If Ortiz's knees were
fully
healthy, I suspect that we'd see his HR and 2B numbers reversed, sort of
like last year.

Still, I can live with Papi's numbers for this year. There's not a damn
thing wrong with a .330-ish BA, ~35 HRs, over 50 2B's, and around
115-120 RBI's. That's a fine season.- Hide quoted text -

It's a better season than last year.

How so? He had more ~15-20 more homers and something like 30 more RBIs
last season. (Come to think of it, about 1/2 to 2/3 of the RBI difference
appears to come right from the HR difference. Hmmmmm.)

Sure, other numbers vary, but for a slugger like Ortiz, I tend to
think that they'll willingly trade *some* average and doubles for
more homers and more RBI.

Still, I won't complain about either season. Both are very productive
in their own way.
