maybe they can switch a-fraud to SS, and still keep lowell
stranger things have happened,

I heard on ESPN radio Brian Ca$hman quoted as saying that if
A-Rod
opts out of his contract, they will not pursue him, because if
they
re-
sign him, Texas no longer will have to pay part of his salary.
I think that they're bluffing--no way they would let him go to
the
Sox, who could probably find a way to get rid of Lugo and let
A-Rod
return to being a SS.
(Cowherd thinks they're either drunk or bluffing).

BTT
Let's Go, Red Sox!

i think they are bluffing too.

Why Sox? Why not Angels or Mets?

henry is said to lust for afraud.
i imagine the mets will bid, i think he'll cost too much for the
angles.

I almost hope he goes to the Mets.

A) The Sox wouldn't have to face him 19 times a year.

B) Being on the Mets would be a poke in the proverbial eye
of the Yankees for the entire baseball season.

C) The Sox wouldn't have to shell out something like $30M/yr
for just one player.- Hide quoted text -

I couldn't agree more, you mutant.

I don't care how much it costs. PLEASE MR. HENRY, MR. HENRY PLEASE,
sign Alex Rodriguez!!! He's the best player in baseball.

And how many other talented players will the Sox NOT be able to afford
after spending a ridiculous amount of money to get Arod?

Doesn't matter. They'll have the best, plus a terrific pitching
staff, Ellsbury, Pedroia, Ortiz, and Manny. And Youkilis.

If the Sox sign him, ok, whatever. But I expect that it will have an
impact
on their ability to sign other talented free agents.

How many are they really going to sign, though? They won't sign a DH,
LF, CF, RF (due to contract), SS (due to contract), 2B, C, or more
than one 1B/3B (Youk would play the other corner). They won't sign a
closer. They still have Beckett, Dice-K, and all the kids, so at
most, they'd sign one good starter if they let Schilling go. Plus a
corner infielder, unless they keep Lowell. So let Lowell go and sign
Alex. Or keep Lowell, move Alex to SS, and trade Lugo.

I'm looking a little futher into the future. Manny's going to be gone in a
year
or so. Schilling's probably gone after this year. Youk is going to become
a FA pretty soon. And I'm not sure when Ortiz' contract comes due either.

Much as I like Lowell, If the Sox were going to have Arod, I'd rather have
him at 3B and and keep the younger (and probably cheaper) Lugo.

The only upside I can see is that from a talent perspective, Arod would
effectively be able to take Manny's place for years to come as the Sox
#1 RH power hitter. And, I have no doubt that he's hit a LOT of dingers
at Fenway.

Oh baby, would he ever!!!

Arod's excellent RH power is about the very best reason for wanting him,
since Manny's getting on up in age, and IMHO the Sox are actually a little
lacking in RH power.

I just don't like the idea of spending SOOOOOO much on any one player.

I normally agree, but Alex is special, IMHO.

He's got a lot of talent, and yet his teams never seem to get over the hump.

Would he be able to shuck that horsecollar in Boston? Who knows.
