Win the battles, lose the war?

There's very little doubt in my mind that with the Sox pitching, that
they will win the division (as long as everyone stays healthy). Look
at this coming month's schedule. They should be able to blast past
some of these bad teams (Texas & Tampa, etc.). However, can they win
a series against the Angels or the Tigers? The Sox had great pitching
in June, but were only a .500 team, while the Angels and Tigers are 8
or 9 games above .500, with somewhat worse pitching:

but they had much better hitting than the sox:

A good test will be the Detroit series. One of Detroit's weakness is
their 39 year old main closer who now has an ERA of over 6. However,
with their starting pitching, it's easy to see why Peter Gammons,
according to MLB "thinks Detroit is a given to make the World Series."
