That's cheating? Show me a rule that was violated.
Didn't see the play, but there's this from the official rules:
INTERFERENCE
(a) Offensive interference is an act by the team at bat which
interferes with, obstructs, impedes, hinders or confuses
any fielder attempting to make a play. If the umpire declares
the batter, batter- runner, or a runner out for interference,
all other runners shall return to the last base that was in the
judgment of the umpire, legally touched at the time of the
interference, unless otherwise provided by these rules.
I've never seen or heard of a major leaguer pulling a stunt like this,
if that's really what Rodriquez did.
It happens a lot, not always so blatently. In the World Series years ago,
Reggie Jackson leaned into a throw from second to first causiing the ball
to go into right field and a run to score. He wasn't called for it, but it
created a heated debate.
The one part of the rule that jumps out at me is "confuses any fielder."
I've never see that called, and fielders do it all the time, though there's
problably no rule against it. Manny did it last night and picked off the
runner at second.
