A cup/athletic supporter is an uncomfortable article of clothing.
Baseball is a hard enough sport when one is fully concentrating,
let alone with some piece of equipment providing a distraction.
Tell her it's for that reason. Otherwise (assuming not all
players are wearing cups), just look her right in the eye and
tell her, "Scrotums. They're not always as comfortable as they
may look."
