So will the media stop refering to him as the Sox "start pitcher" and "a

when are you going to admit you were wrong about him being in
Pawtucket?

Also, he *is* a legend in Japan. And he looks pretty good to me for
someone having to go through a very difficult transition

1) I was wrong about Pawtucket if I said he would start there. I don't think
I said "start" and the year isn't over yet.

regardless, you said he'd be at Pawtucket. Barring injury he will
never play for Pawtucket.

2) A 26 yo isn't a "legend" anyplace.

By the commonly understood defintion of the word as used in this
context regarding media and fan obsession in an advanced media
saturated country like Japan, yes, he is a legend in Japan. That's a
fact, whether you want to be a pedant or not. The issue of what
constitutes a sporting legend is up to you, but DiceK in Japan is as
much a legend in that context as you'll find, much like I imagine
Ichiro and Matsui are.

3) Jackie Robinson went through a "very difficult transition". DiceK is no
different from 30% of the major leaguers who have come from other countries
except he has tons of money and perks to help him adjust.

Different situations. Just because JR put up with horrendous racism
doesn't make a jot of difference to Matsuzaka. For one, he can't speak
English. Try imagining how hard that is. Two, your argument about
money is ludicrous. He's not on the mound thinking "ooooo, I'm scared
and i can't cope, mind you I have 10 million dollars so I am OK".
these athletes are at the tail end of a distribution of talent, and
it's a very fine line between success and failure. It's no surprise to
anyone with a brain that it might take any player a while to
acclimatise, especially given the huge media attention and focus on
everything he does/says (while he can't understand anything in real
time at the moment). I don't feel sorry for him, I would rather have
his problems and his money but thats not the point. It will take him
time to settle, and we don't know how well his stuff will translate -
the US MLB ball is rumoured to be different to the one they use in
japan for starters.

I've half a mind that you're just a xenophobic racist idiot who looks
down at anyone who's from a different culture than your own, but it's
possible that you're just an idiot who spouts crap on a regular basis
while having a hardon for bit part players like Donnie Sadler and Shea
Hillenbrand, but I'm no expert......
