Oddities from today's game

1. The catcher for the Angels. Jose Molina, wears glasses when he
catches but not when he hits. Anyone have any idea of the reason?
2. The FOX announcers, McCarver and Stockton, were no where near as
bad as the usual FOX announcers, McCarver and Buck. Stockton has a
great voice and typically stays in the background, which is good for
baseball telecasting. But how does he control Timmy? Timmy even made
an interesting comment about how catchers don't get a lot of time to
work on their hitting in ST and thus often get off to slow starts
(although I've never seen stats supporting the claim).
3. I think the Angels are afraid of Papelbon. THAT is the reason for
all those late runs that Boston has been scoring.
4. Varitek has been the poster boy for the cold hitter not getting the
breaks (well, he got a nice error by Gary Matthews, Jr., but no hit).
But he does seem to be swinging the bat well again, which may be good
news for the near future.
5. I wish Manny would start being Manny. For the first time, he spent
a lot of time over the winter in the cage. That was supposed to help
him get off to a fast start. Didn't work.
6. JD Drew has been really good, not just at bat but in the field as
well. If Mike Scioscia had been watching the games, I doubt he'd have
walked Manny to get to Drew.
7. Right now, I'd walk a dog to get to Coco Crisp.
8. After last year, I was prepared to give up on Eric Hinske. He
looked awfully good today, even against the lefty (but, as Timmy
correctly noted, Oliver is not particularly strong against LHB).
