Re: No Extension for Schilling?

Dano venit, vidit, et dixit:

<snip>

How many AL starters of any age topped Schilling's ERA last year?

Among AL pitchers with 162 or more innings pitched, Schilling had
the 13th-best ERA. Among AL starters with 15 or more starts,
Schilling finished 17th.

Just curious. I'm not necessarily disagreeing, but given the
deals being handed out, this didn't seem out of line.

Not sure what you mean here: I don't think he was particularly
overpaid in 2006, given his performance. I'm not sure if
the same $13 million would make him overpaid this year or
next year (nor am I sure that he'd sign for next year for a
mere $13 million).

I also suspect there's still a very good chance he returns.

As do I. I think the Sox are being cautious, but I think they
generally like Schilling enough to try to sign him if he has
about the same season in 2007 as he had in 2006. At his age,
however, there remains enough possibility that he loses his
stuff that I understand their caution.

Catch you later.
