I was just thinking about the collision at first base between Hillie and
Sheffield last year. Sheffield tried to knee Hillie as he went by - they
collided - both went down hard. At first Hillie looked like the one who was
hurt the most. Sheffield ended up out for weeks and I think Hillie only
missed a game or two. Hillie must be one tough Dutchman - and Gibbons must
be one of the stupidest guys ever - to invite Hillie to take a shot at him.
It's a good thing Hillie took the high road and left the idiot off the hook.

Totally agree. I was pleasantly surprised in both cases. I really
thought Hillie would, at the very least, go on the disabled list after
that collision. He got crushed by Sheffield, but like you say, Hillie
is a very tough ballplayer. The Gibbons incident was a sorry affair.
I'm sure Hillie is far from blameless in the clubhouse soap opera, but
I cannot in any way condone a manager telling a player to hit him.
It's a baseball club, not an audition for a remake of Raging Bull.
