I caught just a bit if this in a local station this morning with no
detail. Anyone hearing more? This seems like the biggest difderence of
opinion on a deal between most here and most in the "real" world that
I've seen in a while. Most of us have reservations. Most "out there"
seem to like it.

My big concern is the length of that deal. If we get the continuing to
spiral downwards Helton we are stuck with him and they will throw him out
there every day until his contract is over. Bad backs tend to be chronic
and at 33 he isn't getting younger. On the flip side Lowell and Sean Casey
are the only decent 1B or 3B options out there that will be free agents
after 2007. If they don't sign one of those guys they'll have to settle for
mediocrity (Hinske?) at one of the corners or trade for someone good and
they will likely pay more than they will for Helton considering his upside
if '06 was a blip and he won't continue the downward turn in power that
started in '05.
