Overall, the starting pitching wasn't good, but I'd say that Schilling had a successful year, unless your definition of successful is fairly exclusive. Other than Papelbon, I don't think that the bullpen was good at all. Even with Papelbon, the Sox bullpen was 4th-worst in the league as measured by VORP. Any pitching improvement will be welcome, and improving the defense will help too, IMO. I'm glad that Theo is making some major changes, because the team needs help.
