guy's pretty good.......

End of game - Royals win 10-9
Talk about playing with people's emotions. The Red Sox score six runs in the
eighth inning but can't hold off the mighty Royals in the ninth? Man, Boston
fans can't be happy with this team right now. They are in a free-fall and
something needs to happen if they want to make the playoffs. Call me crazy,
but I think we just saw the Red Sox season come to an end tonight with this
loss.
Bottom 9th - Royals 10-9
Smart move by Royals manager Buddy Bell, replacing shortstop Angel Berroa
with Andres Blanco. Another error by Berroa and he'd have to move out of
Kansas City.
Bottom 9th - Royals 10-9
The Sox will send Lowell, Varitek and Gabe Kapler to the plate this inning.
Top 9th - Royals 10-9
What a game. Joey Gathright doubles down the line to give the lead back to
Kansas City. I don't think those poor people in Boston can handle these
types of games. They'll have one more chance to come back in win it in the
bottom of the ninth.
Top 9th - Red Sox 9-8
The Royals are able to get down a bunt and now have runners at second and
third with one out. Could they possibly come back and take the lead? How
heartbreaking would that be for Boston?
Top 9th - Red Sox 9-8
The Red Sox call on Mike Timlin to come in and seal the win. Believe it or
not the Royals are out-hitting Boston, yet find themselves trailing here in
the ninth. (I'm guessing you can believe it, it's the Royals we're talking
about here).
End 8th - Red Sox 9-8
Finally the inning is over but the Red Sox drop a six spot to take the lead.
What are the chances the Royals suck it up and make a comeback? Eh, I'm
going to say it's not looking good.
Bottom 8th - Red Sox 9-8
He does it again. A base hit up the middle and the Red Sox take the lead.
This is unreal. Props to Ortiz for the big hit, but boo to Royals bullpen.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-7
The chants of MVP serenade Fenway Park as David Ortiz steps into the box.
This is not the guy you want up right now if you're a Royals fan. I'm going
to go out on a limb and say he comes through with a hit.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-7
We have a one-run game, folks. Mark Loretta lines a double down the line.
And if they weren't playing on a little league diamond the game would be
tied. As it is, Boston will need another hit. Wow.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-6
Well the drama continues as the Red Sox are an extra base hit away from
tying this game up. Good thing they have Jimmy Gobble in the bullpen warming
up.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-6
I guess if the Royals blow this lead it won't be anything new, they have 26
blown saves on the season, that's the most in the majors.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-6
Coco Crisp decides he wants in on the action as he singles in a run. Odalis,
hang in there, I'm cheering for you, buddy.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-5
How crummy would that be for Odalis Perez if the Royals blow this lead. He's
got to be in panic right now.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-5
Don't look now but Red Sox could be starting a rally here. Jason Varitek
blasts a two-run homer to cut into that Royal lead. Don't go anywhere, folks
this could get a interesting. It is the Royals after all.
Bottom 8th - Royals 8-3
Hey! Angel Berroa makes a play! His throw was little high over to first, but
he got the out. I think that's the first time tonight he hasn't booted a
play.
Top 8th - Royals 8-3
Ah, and Foulke tries the old fake to third come back to first. And of
course, it doesn't work. I love that play and I can't wait for the day when
it works. This game is starting to get out of hand as the Royals continue to
beat up on the Red Sox pitchers.
Top 8th - Royals 7-3
After a long battle with Manny Delcarmen, Esteban German lines a base hit up
the middle to bring in another run. And it looks like the Royals will bring
in Keith Foulke from the bullpen.
Top 8th - Royals 6-3
John Buck lines a ball to center to bring in Shealy as the Royals record
their 12th hit of the game and extend their lead.
Top 8th - Royals 5-3
Nice start to the eighth inning for the Royals as Ryan Shealy triples. It
looked like Shealy's ball hit the ladder which is on the green monster and
shoots off into the corner. The ladder no longer serves a purpose in Fenway
(I don't think), it used to be for getting baseballs out of the net after a
home run was it, but now they have the bleachers so I wonder why it's still
there?
End 7th - Royals 5-3
And Big Papi isn't happy as he goes down looking. It's not too often we see
Ortiz arguing balls and strikes.
Bottom 7th - Royals 5-3
Well it looks like Odalis Perez's night is over. That's one of the finest
pitching outings I have seen this season. He allows just five hits and
strikes out 10. If I were in the dugout I would definitely give Perez a fist
bump.
Bottom 7th - Royals 5-3
Seriously, forget about wasting a pitch high and out of the zone. When a
pitcher is up 0-2 on a batter and they want to waste a pitch, they could
reach back and throw a fastball four feet behind the batter. And then come
back with a ball right down the pipe, it's guaranteed to work.
Top 7th - Royals 5-3
You talk about the greatest set up pitch of all time, Red Sox pitcher Craig
Hansen throws a 90 mph fastball behind Emil Brown. Brown stares out at the
plate and then on the next pitch Hansen freezes him with a fastball down the
pipe. Good stuff.
Top 7th - Royals 5-3
And for the first time tonight Mike Sweeney is retired after popping out
first. Sweeney's working on a career day here, he got three hits and three
RBI. Pretty solid.
End 6th - Royals 5-3
And Odalis Perez fights back after having no outs and runners at second a
third to get out of the inning. I guess if you want things done in Kansas
City you have to do them yourself. Isn't that right Angel Berroa?
Bottom 6th - Royals 5-3
Perez is now over 100 pitches for the game, let's see if he can get out of
the inning with the lead. I wonder how much longer the Royals will let him
go.
Bottom 6th - Royals 5-3
And Jason Varitek just misses a two-run home run, but the Red Sox have
runners at second and third with no one out. I guess if you're a Royals fan,
the silver lining here is that David Ortiz isn't coming to bat.
Bottom 6th - Royals 5-3
And Angel Berroa makes another bonehead play. He drifts back in to shallow
left field and drops a fly ball. I tell you what, if the Royals lose this
game, Berroa needs to be smacked. That's twice tonight he's cost the Royals
an out.
Top 6th - Royals 5-3
And thank goodness the inning comes to an end. I don't think I could have
taken one more second of their rambling. C'mon, men, clean up your act,
you're better than this ... I would think.
Top 6th - Royals 5-3
And the NESN guys are at it again as the men in the booth are rambling about
Yankee Candles. I guess that's what happens when your team is getting
smacked around by the Royals and you're playoff hopes are fading by the
second.
Top 6th - Royals 5-3
The Red Sox make a pitching change as Bryan Corey comes into the game. Let's
see of Corey can slow down this "dangerous" Royals offense.
End 5th - Royals 5-3
No sir. Manny gets sent back to the dugout as he strikes out for the second
time tonight. That's Perez's ninth strikeout of the game.
Bottom 5th - Royals 5-3
Odalis Perez paints the outside corner but doesn't get the call on Manny
Ramirez. Now that could be a big non-call as we all know Manny has the power
to tie this game up with one swing.
Bottom 5th - Royals 5-3
There's a milestone in this game, folks: It's the first time in David
Ortiz's career that he has hit a double and a triple in a game. That's
impressive considering his size.
Bottom 5th - Royals 5-3
Well the first or second time through the lineup wasn't a success against
Odalis Perez, let's see if the third time through is the charm for the Red
Sox offense.
Top 5th - Royals 5-3
I know there is still a lot of game to be played, but if this lead holds up
and the Sox lose, this could be a the nail in the coffin for their playoff
hopes. They're not going to catch the Yankees, and they're 5.5 games back in
the wild card. A loss and I think you can put a wrap on the season.
Top 5th - Royals 5-3
Mike Sweeney blasts a three-run shot into the monster seats to give the
Royals the lead. It's Sweeney's third hit of the night. What a turn of
events. And the Boston crowd is dead silent now.
Top 5th - Red Sox 3-2
The Royals have a little something brewing here in the fifth, runners at the
corners and no one out. The Red Sox quickly get Bryan Corey warming up in
the bullpen.
Top 5th - Red Sox 3-2
The Red Sox have only three hits in the game so far, and two of them belong
to David Ortiz. They'll have to do better than that if they are going to win
this game.
End 4th - Red Sox 3-2
Wow, and make that strikeout number eight for Perez. Odalis seems to be in a
world of his own out there. If the Royals somehow get the lead back, there's
a good chance Perez won't give it up.
Bottom 4th - Red Sox 3-2
There's that Perez guy again. He records strikeout number seven. If it
weren't for that bad third inning, Perez would be winning this game right
now.
Top 4th - Red Sox 3-2
And that's why coaches tell you to use two hands. Varitek went for the
casual one-handed weak tag and it costs the Sox a run. Another hit here and
the Royals could tie this thing up.
Top 4th - Red Sox 3-2
Shealy scores after Varitek drops the ball after a play at home plate.
Shealy was out by 10 feet but Varitek somehow lost control of the ball on
the tag.
Top 4th - Red Sox 3-1
Angel Berroa steps to the dish with a chance to redeem himself after that
crucial error last inning. And he smacks a base hit to left field. I guess
he's off the hook (for now, anyway)
Top 4th - Red Sox 3-1
Nice play by Lowe at the hot corner, but the Royals are able to get on the
board as Sweeney comes home. The Royals have come out of the gate swinging
here in the 4th inning. I like the aggressiveness.
Top 4th - Red Sox 3-0
Mike Sweeney gets some nice wood on a fastball as he records his second
double of the game. Let's see if the Royals can get something going to make
up for that poor defensive effort.
End 3rd - Red Sox 3-0
And what do you know, Perez ends the inning with his sixth strikeout of the
game. Props to Perez, shame on that defense.
Bottom 3rd - Red Sox 3-0
This has got to be dishearting for Perez, he was set up to have an easy
inning, but his defense let him down. I guess that's what he gets for
playing for the Royals.
Bottom 3rd - Red Sox 3-0
Manny Ramirez comes through with an opposite field hit as Ortiz scores from
third. Nice piece of hitting by Manny
Bottom 3rd - Red Sox 2-0
Wow, tough break for Odalis Perez. He should be out of this inning, but
Berroa's error leaves the door open for the Red Sox.
Bottom 3rd - Red Sox 2-0
What's this? Big Papi drills a ball deep to center field and ends up at
third base with a triple. He drives in two runs. Once again, Ortiz comes
through with a big hit.
Bottom 3rd
Well Angel Berroa gives them something to scream about as he commits his
17th error of the season at shortstop.
Bottom 3rd
I'm guessing the guy ran onto the field to try and put some life into this
crowd. Man is it quiet in Fenway tonight.
Bottom 3rd
I don't understand the logic behind running onto the field. You never get on
TV, and you get kicked out of the game with the possibility of having
charges pressed against you. So tell me, why do people do it?
Bottom 3rd
And now there's an idiot who has run onto the field, but security is all
over that guy. He doesn't get more that 10 feet before he is taken down.
Bottom 3rd
Well the Red Sox are about to go through their lineup for the second time,
let's see if they can figure out Odalis Perez.
Top 3rd
The field reporter for NESN is showing off his suit that his wearing. He's
all giggles and pointing at the camera. Are you kidding me, buddy? Take it
easy and concentrate on the game. Geez.
End 2nd
And make it five, that's right, five strikeouts for Odalis Perez. His latest
victim: Coco Crisp.
Bottom 2nd
Perez obviously has his mojo working early on as he now has four strikeouts
and we're not out of the second inning yet. He just sent Wily Mo Pena back
to the dugout. (I guess that's what Pena gets for not diving after that ball
in the first)
Bottom 2nd
We all know Bostonians love their Red Sox, but tonight they seem a little
jaded. Could they have had a hard week at work?
Bottom 2nd
I'm curious to see if Odalis Perez can keep this Boston lineup off balance.
He looks strong so far and already has recorded three strikeouts. Pretty
impressive.
Top 2nd
Nothing doing for the Royals in the second as the tough call ends a possible
rally.
Top 2nd
And the no-call ends up costing the Royals as Angel Berroa grounds into a
double play. Tough break for the Royals.
Top 2nd
Jarvis makes a nice stop falling off the mound, but his throw sails past 1st
baseman Kevin Youkilis, the Royals are arguing that the ball went into the
camera well. I don't think it did, so Buck will remain at 1st base.
End 1st
Manny goes down swinging to end the inning as his dreadlocks go flying
wildly as he chases a ball down in the dirt. Nice going, Manny.
Bottom 1st
Big Papi gets his first hit since rejoining the Red Sox, he smacks a ground
rule double into the right field bleachers. Let's see if Manny Ramirez can
bring him.
Bottom 1st
Odalis Perez comes out throwing gas, he's struck out the first two batters
he's faced. But now big Papi is coming up, this should get interesting.
Bottom 1st
Oh, bad play by the ball boy down the left field line. It was a slow roller
and he tried to backhand it, and he wasn't even close.
Bottom 1st
The Royals send big Odalis Perez to the mound tonight. Perez has struggled
mildly since coming over from the Dodgers in July, but tonight he has zip on
his fastball, he looks comfortable out there.
Top 1st
I would love to see Ryan Shealy hit a grand slam here. Only because Pena
didn't hustle ... but he doesn't. Alex Gonzalez makes a nice play up the
middle to end the inning.
Top 1st
If the Red Sox were 10 games up in the division then I could understand Pena
not wanting to get hurt, but they're fighting for their playoff lives. Let's
see if the Royals can capitalize on that mental error.
Top 1st
Mike Sweeney dumps a bloop down the right field line and Wily Mo Pena lets
it bounce into the stands for a ground rule double. Pena should have laid
out for that ball, there's no excuse for that.
Top 1st
You can feel the tension in the stands as the Red Sox are in danger of
missing the playoffs this season. I must say, it would be a major blow to
the organization if the BoSox were left out of October, especially after the
great first half they had.
Top 1st
The Red Sox need a win badly tonight as they find themselves nine games
behind the Yankees in the AL East.
Top 1st
David DeJesus starts things off with a base hit for the Royals. Not the way
Jarvis wants to start the game.
