Re: Is Eric Wedge a big league manager?

After tonights' game, I have to question Wedge's ability to
effectively manage a game. The other night, he allowed that young kid to
get his brains beat in with a Big Papi walkoff homerun. Tonight, he
allows the same kid to hit the weakest hitter in the lineup, the
catcher, then hit Agon, then almost hit Kevin. All the while, he has
Mota warming up in the pen. Why not bring Mota in? Maybe, Wedge knows
the season is over so he is just trying everybody out to see how they
respond. Isn't that the kind of thing you do in September? A more
experienced manager would have won all three of these Fenway games.

In his defense, I think they're in the mode of seeing what they got to
work with for next year - the white flag went up on this year with the
trading of Wickman. I would hope after the second straight implosion
by that guy, that you'll see Mota or someone else try to take over the
now vacant closer role.

It was live or die with that kid to see what he had, and they saw and
died.
