The idea is to win as many games as possible, regardless of where you
play them. Right now, beating up on the NL is easy, and the Sox should
try to capitalize on the mismatches as much as possible. They let a
winnable game get away last night by starting an incompetent, unproven
pitcher against an ace (with Ortiz on the bench). Tito gave that game
away before it was ever played.
Oh, puh-leeeeeeaze. What were the Sox supposed to do? Start Wakefield on
short rest? Then what are you going to do? Start the other starters on
short rest? Johnson was going to be starting at some point. The rainout on
Sunday merely pulled in his game by a little bit.
Furthermore, you don't really have that much control over the pitcher vs
pitcher matchups. Oh, sure, you could argue that the Sox should have
stuck with Snyder and that's certainly a debateable point. But once the Sox
picked up Johnson, he was going to get used.
