Bernie's peashooter makes Damon look like Ellis Valentine. The scary
prospect (well comical for you guys) is Bernie will back up Sheff in
RF.

I can't imagine it will last. (Or if he does play out there with
any regularity -- if Sheffield becomes part of the DH rotation with
Williams and Giambi -- then I'm sure it'll only happen with, say
groundball pitchers on the mound). Any ball hit to the right side of
the outfield will allow runners to advance, what with Damon and Williams
out there. And if Cano/Giambi have as little range as some people seem
to think, that's going to be a lot of balls scooting through into the
outfield.... (Personally, I tend to think Cano's better than some people
give him credit, though my understanding is that the top defensive
metrics are mixed on him).

I agree. It's just that the thought of him in RF (as he had been
taking turns there before the WBC) makes everyone in asb-nyy queasy. I
do understand that it was a sentimental decision on George's part to
bring back Bernie (so I can't knock it too much), but if they rotate
Sheff and Hideki as DH more frequently than in the past (as Joe has
been saying), that means Bubba and Bernie will get a lot of ABs which
will create a substantial hole in that vaunted lineup. On days when
Stinnett spells Jorge, that's two sinkholes in the latter part of the
lineup. Despite the hoopla in NY media, I still think many people are
overrating this vaunted lineup.
