Just as us Pedro lovers would have heard from a lot of people if Pedro
had an ERA of 4.82 instead of 2.82 last year. I mean, we heard from
them because of his sore toe!!!

Well, they did predict the bad toe and all!
When the Red Sox passed on Pedro, a lot of people criticized that decision -
but not me. I knew that there would be a lot of "I told you so's" after
Pedro had a good 2005 season, but the ultimate wisdom of that decision would
be on display in years 3 and 4 of the contract.
Right now we are seeing the reason the Sox let him go... his constantly
uncertain status and "me-first" attitude. If he pitches the next 3 years
the way he pitched the last one, then Boston looks stupid. But I don't
think that is going to happen.
No, the Sox let him go for money. They did offer 3 years but didn't
want to risk the money for the 4th. Perhaps a good decision. But
nothing yet to indicate it was, and a lot to indicate it wasn't ---
about as much as you could possibly get from one year (RS lost the
division and playoffs as a result of porr SP and Pedro has an
exceptional year for the Mets). In some cases, you can say that the
non-signing let them get someone else of grat value (we shall see on
Damon, for example). But that was not the case with Pedro --- we got
Clement.
