Yes, but the thing is, there is no official law that you can be penalized with. And, unless there is, I don't believe that there is a need for people taking on the role of Internet policeman, as they are only enforcing their own beliefs, and *not necessarily* the beliefs of everybody in that newsgroup, let alone the entire USENET community, the majority of which do not even read the group with the incriminating post.
The only real problem w/ Don's post was the lack of a delimiter string
which means that his (overly capitalized for my tastes, but whatever)
.sig file (how many people even realize why there's properly a . in front
of the term?) actually gets copied in every single reply to him. Since
those by default do not deserve to get quoted, well ...
Is it THAT much of a hassle to just delete it or ignore it? Does it ruin your day? Is your life over because of it? Is it worth starting trouble? Do you actually believe Don is a total moron who doesn't know how to function day to day (judging by the responses to Don's signature, I believe this is a "yes")? These are serious questions that I'd like every single person in this NG to look into, as I cannot believe this is actually debatable.
My final words of this post: Let people post how they want. It's like telling someone how to dress, and ostracizing and/or forcing them to comply with one's own rules.
What if I took a dump on your lawn?
My lawn happens to be on private property, hence that would be illegal. Until you purchase USENET from whoever governs it, then please, don't even ask questions like that.
