Sounds perfect.  Gold glove man Ichiro stays out of NY and takes over
center field for Boston, and Boston signs Giles to play LF (or RF, with
Nixon going to LF).  Ichiro + Giles will be cheaper than Damon + Manny,
will yield similar offense (drop in power, better OBP, better BA, and
much better baserunning...Ichiro alone can change the complexion of a
game) and superor defense.

Or, instead of signing Giles, we trade for Dave Roberts, and look to
replace some of Manny's offense at 1B and/or use the savings on
pitching, either getting Burnett and sending Arroyo to the bullpen, or
getting Wagner or Ryan.


Ichiro is an over rated hitter, isn't going to be any better, and is a terrific fielder. I'd rather have Damon than Ichiro.
