I think it's reasonable for a team to caution their player about their
off-the-field activities.
1. If he's caught in a raid, even though it's not illegal for the
players, it looks really bad for the team. Steinbrenner is obsessed
with his team's image. I mean, he even makes his players shave their
beards and cut their hair (one reason I know Damon won't end up a
Yankee).
2. MLB is a little sensitive when it comes to gambling, even if legal
and not pertaining to baseball.
3. You gotta wonder what kind of people (besides pro poker players and
athletes) are playing at these clubs. It wouldn't be surprising if some
had mafia or gang related activity.
