Is it Mueillaer time?

What do you think are the futures of the three Mueillaers in Boston?
Bill Mueller I would like to see them keep, though I think he's due to get
something like $2-4M per year on a 2 year deal from someone - might be a bit
much for the Sox unless he gives a discount to stay in Boston. The deal with
Mueller though is that he seems to be blocking Youkilis, so unless they were
going to give Youkilis the starting 1B job (or platoon him with Petagine and
have him at 3B the other times), it's a tough one. Mueller is the kind of
guy I like to see on the team, always hustles, always all out effort, gets
the job done, no fuss but capable of big plays in big situations. Obviously
his knees are a problem, and I don't know how well he would play as a backup
rather than a starter, and he may be too expensive for a bench player.
Kevin Millar, well, you would think the Red Sox will not be that keen to
keep him given his woeful year and advancing age. He is the clubhouse
'presence' and that does seem to have its place, especially in an atmosphere
like Boston. Would he be useful to keep around as a bench player? I don't
know, he's looked pretty lame wherever he's been and seems to have
completely lost his pop. But that means it's going to be tough to see a lot
of teams interested in him as well. I don't know if Olerud will be done this
year, or whether the Sox think Petagine and/or Youkilis can cover 1B - or
whether something like moving Nixon, or even Shoppach might be how they go.
Maybe they'll go big on a 1B if a Manny to the Mets deal happens in the
offseason.
Wade Miller never really got it going, he was OK, never great, never truly
awful, but just seemed to be unable to avoid the bad inning each start. I'm
not sure if the plan is to keep him out until next year, you would think the
struggles this year would make them keen to get him back if they could, so
it doesn't look likely. Hopefully a good rest will have him properly ready
for next year - he's still cheap and could be a decent starter in 2006, or
even a useful trade chip if any of the kids work out in the rotation.
