Re: OT: The effects of aging

I'm posting this here because I need advice from old farts and this

I'm 65. I've always been physically active: gardening, home repairs,
cross country motorcycling, etc. I was the guy you called on when you
needed to move a piano.

Over the years, my lifestyle changed and one by one those activities
dropped off but I was still reasonably strong and energetic. Then in
2009 I fell off a cliff. I suddenly lost the strength in my legs and
was able to only walk at a shuffle and even then needed a cane. I had
a host of tests that indicated nerve damage in my legs but never
revealed a cause. After a year of tests I pretty much gave up and
resigned myself to living with it.

Unfortunately it has gotten progressively worse. I feel weak all over.
I can't do even routine tasks like raking leaves. I used to travel for
both pleasure and business but that's all gone. I drive only 1,500
miles per year now. Some days I'm so tired I can't get out of bed. I
have a woodworking shop that I looked forward to spending time in when
I retired, but now I don't have the energy nor the attention to work
safely with power tools.

I'm pressing my GP to resume testing but he keeps blowing me off that
this is just normal aging. I don't believe anything so precipitous and
debilitating is normal.

So, I'm looking for advice:

I am ABSOLUTLEY NOT looking for long distance medical diagnosis.

My question to the group is: If you are a senior citizen, did you
experience such a rapid and severe decline at some point? Was it
normal?

Hello Dick;

I am sorry to hear about your health issue.

Please, for your own good, find another physician, some one who will
not blow you off with the 'old age' card. 65 is the new 40.

I send you good thoughts and prayers for you to get better.
