Greetings,

I'll start with a brief intro and add a couple of questions further
down the page...

I smoked a pipe for a brief period in the late 80's, but dropped it
after the SWMBO expressed dim views. That particular spouse is gone
and my current lady friend has a much more relaxed view on tobacco, so
I've recently reacquired the desire to engage in this luxury. I've
started out with a couple of estate pipes and suitable accessories,
and a couple of tobacco samples (the gentleman who runs Barclays on
Lane Ave in Columbus, OH has been most helpful) and I'm really
starting to enjoy this indulgence. Right now I'm sampling aromatics,
not sure if I'll get to the english style tobaccos but it's not out of
the question at this particular time.

now time for a few questions:

What do you consider "typical" for tobacco consumption? How many pipes
do you smoke in a day?
Due to the "politically correct-ness" of my employer (lets just say I
work for a large municipality and leave it at that) I'm unable to
smoke at work so my smoking will be confined to non-working
hours...bummer..

Any tips for travelling with pipes? Also do you find it difficult to
smoke while driving?

Any other tips that you guys wish to relay to a tyro are welcome....

Regards,
~Phil

Welcome back to the fold, Phil!

My consumption varies from 0-3 bowls per day.

I rarely smoke my pipe while driving, but when I do I only smoke until the bowl
goes out. Tamping and relighting while driving are akin to cell phone use in my
book, so I do neither. A pipe that goes out sits in the console until I've come
to a stop.

adding my welcome back, Phil.
retired since 9/07. 5-7bowls per day depending on bowl size. Cigars
during dog walks. As to smoking/driving, pretty much with Bob,
usually a yard pipe that I can light with a Zippo & not worry about
rim scorch. Around stop/go traffic, no tamp, no re-light. Never had a
problem on 4lane highways, esp. expressways. Just gotta keep eyes on
road while doing either. Wifie's ok with inside smoking long as I stay
in "back room" (she has both asthma & COPD), long as not heavy latakia
that I like. With doors/windows open however, anything goes. Enjoy the
ride!
